I had the privilege this year to work with amazing students and teachers at Faircrest Memorial Middle School in Canton, Ohio.
2014 marked the centennial of the beginning of World War I. In order to teach students the significance of the war and create a different learning experience, teachers Michele Pedone, Greg Eibel, and Amy Eibel at Faircrest Memorial Middle School and I teamed up to recreate historic photographs and posters that highlight important aspects of the war. Students could choose one of three topics to research and participate in: Women and War, Propaganda, and War Technology. The students then wrote explanations for the recreated photographs. These images were exhibited as part of Faircrest's annual Veteran's Day program on November 10, 2014, and at Second April Galerie in downtown Canton from December 4, 2014 through January 3, 2015.
This 45-page book features the photographs created by Mandy and the 8th grade students. It includes behind-the-scenes photos, labels written by the students, and an overview of World War I.

I am very proud to announce that I have received an ArtsinStark grant to continue photographing and gathering stories that shed light on hunger and homelessness in our community. This will result in an exhibit sometime in 2015.
This fall (2014) I worked with the Stark County Medical Auxiliary to photograph patrons at Canton Calvary Mission, Family Living Center, Hope Outreach Ministries, and Refuge of Hope as part of a fundraiser for the organizations. I realized that many of these organizations have no real funds to have photographs taken of the events they hold, the work they do, or the people they serve, to share with the general public or their funders. I want to help them to document their good work so they can share it with potential donors, volunteers, and supporters.
I find that many people I talk to have prejudices and misunderstandings about the homeless and the hungry. Most think that these people must be lazy. But that is just not true. I spoke with a single mother with 3 teenage boys who has two jobs, but feeding 3 boys is expensive. She uses Refuge of Hope to supplement the meals she purchases. Clearly she is not lazy. Stories like this can help to educate the public to understand the problems within our community and how they can help. Seeing these organizations in action, I was touched by the good work they do. The stories I heard were incredible. Sesseley said "I worked hard at a factory job and raised kids. But I was injured. At first I was ashamed to come here, but it’s a blessing. I thank the lord."

For the past 2 1/2 years, a team of 140 volunteers have dedicated their time and talents to be main characters, behind-the-scenes assistants, extras, prop makers, and makeup artists for these 3 photographic fairy stories: Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty.
50 of these photographs will be part of my very first one-woman photography exhibit at Translations Art Gallery in downtown Canton, opening to the public on Friday, June 6, 2014.
WHY DO I NEED YOUR HELP?
We will be producing a 75-page full-color book of photographs, with three original fairytales by Margy Vogt, Jason Myers, and Andrew Kozma, beautifully crafted based on the images we’ve created. This book will allow us to share this show with everyone out-of-town, and beyond the close of the exhibit. Matting and framing is expensive, and we want this exhibit to be amazing, and travel to other galleries over the coming months.

Call for Extras: Steampunk Sleeping Beauty
Mandy Altimus Pond is completing her last fairytale in a series of 3. These photographs will be featured in an exhibit at Translations Art Gallery in downtown Canton, June 2014.
Models:
- Steampunk costume is required. If you don’t have a costume, never fear- Mandy has some extra pieces and is willing to help you pick out the proper attire. A costume assistance day is scheduled in Massillon, Ohio on Sunday, January 12 from 1-5pm. For reference of the Steampunk look please see our Pinterest board.

Calling all STEAMPUNK ENTHUSIASTS! We are opening up a casting call for Sleeping Beauty photoshoot in the style of steampunk. If you already have a costume, WE WANT YOU!
